THEFT, BURGLARY & ROBBERY
Theft crimes can have serious consequences if you are convicted. Because it is considered a crime of dishonesty or moral turpitude, it can cause potential employment difficulties. Theft is the taking of property belonging to another with the intent to temporarily or permanently deprive them of the use of that property.
Factually, a theft can occur in many ways such as by removing items from a vehicle or breaking into someone's home or building to remove an item. It is important to note that no actual "breaking" into a structure need occur to be charged with burglary. Simple entry (unlocked door, window or balcony) with the intent to steal is sufficient and even if no property was in fact stolen. Whether the dwelling or structure was occupied at the time of the burglary or if a theft is committed with the use of threat, force or a weapon, it is usually a very serious felony.
There are various degrees of burglaries, ranging from 1st to 3 rd degrees, depending on the circumstances of the crime. In Florida, prison sentences can range from 5 to 30 years if convicted. These are harsh penalties which require immediate legal action to prevent.
