Born in Orange County, California and raised in New York City, Ursula C. Jackson is an early graduate of the State University of New York at Albany where she received her Bachelor's in Political Science and a double minor in Communications and Journalism. During her undergraduate coursework, she studied abroad at Middlesex University in London, England. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Jackson attended St. Thomas University, School of Law where she again graduated early and earned her Juris Doctorate.
Upon becoming a member of the Florida Bar in 2004, Ms. Jackson accepted a position as a Public Defender in Broward County, in pursuit of trial experience and knowledge of the Florida Criminal Justice System. During her tenure in public service, Ms. Jackson managed thousands of complex, diverse and high profile/media cases ranging from misdemeanors to life felonies and has tried dozens of cases to verdict. She began her legal career in a specialized Criminal and Mental Health Unit in County Court. She then quickly advanced to Juvenile Court Detentions and was later assigned as a supervising lead attorney in notable Felony Divisions. She has argued hundreds of motions including a select number that have led to an extensive appellate record.
Accordingly in 2010, Ms. Jackson was sponsored and prestigiously invited to Washington, D.C. to become a licensed member of the United States Supreme Court Bar to be recognized before the nine Honorable Supreme Court Justices. Ms. Jackson has also earned federal bar memberships in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the U.S. Tax Court, Immigration Court (EOIR) and the Social Security Administration. Additionally, she is a Court-Appointed Circuit Civil Mediator and a State Qualified Civil Arbitrator.
In conjunction with her legal duties, Ms. Jackson served as an Adjunct Professor for Miami Dade College and Keiser University. She holds visiting professorships at national institutions.
After vesting at the Broward County Public Defender's Office, she formed The Law Office of Ursula C. Jackson, P.L.L.C. The firm is dedicated to the practice of criminal defense and has a professional mission to protect and Defend the Rights of the Accused. It is committed to the Innocence Project to exonerate those wrongfully incarcerated. For exceptional cases, the firm also practices civil litigation and corporate immigration.
To date, Ms. Jackson is federally contracted and is appointed as a per diem Hearing Officer in the Pacific Islands.
